    Emailing invoices

I have never had any trouble emailing a customer invoice before (using Simply Basic.) Today, I have tried to send an email and received an error message " Invalid file". Anyone know what I am missing? I have checked the email forms box in the customer ledger. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Re: Emailing invoices

    Hi Laura,

To check your invoice settings, click Setup, Reports & Forms, then select Invoices.  If you use a customized form, click Browse and make sure you can still locate it.  Otherwise try using one of the default forms.

While you're there, check the printed form settings as well.  The program will try to validate both the printed AND e-mail form no matter which you're doing.  So if either of the forms can't be found, you'll get an error.

    Re: Emailing invoices

    Hi Brian,

I have been trying to email an invoice from Simply Accounting the conventional way for years and have never had any success.

I have repeatedly checked my invoice settings and they seem to be in order. The error I always seem to get is called:

"MAPI".An error occured in resolving name. Return Code 26

On advice from Simply Accounting I have tried different email providers being Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Incredimail but to no avail. The only way I have been able to email an invoice is to save it as a pdf to my desktop and insert it as an attachment to the email to my customer.

If anyone can solve this problem for me I would be very very grateful.

    Thanks, Marion

    Re: Emailing invoices

    Hi Marion,

This type of error indicates a problem with the e-mail program.  Outlook and Outlook Express are both MAPI compliant, so either should work.  Make sure whichever program you are using is set up to send and receive e-mail outside of Simply Accounting, and that it's set as the default e-mail program in Windows.

To make it the default, open the Windows Control Panel and select Internet Options, then click the Programs tab and select it there.  You can also do this from your Outlook settings, usually under the Tools menu but it depends on the version.

I Hope that future versions are compatible with Thunderbird as this e-mail program is becoming more and more popular. And SA is not compatible with it.

    Re: Emailing invoices

I hope so too Christian.  Thunderbird is definitely gaining popularity, but unfortunately it still does not support extended MAPI (Microsoft's Messaging API) functionality.  Without MAPI features, Thunderbird is not capable of interacting with other programs like Simply Accounting, so it's not that we don't support it, but actually the reverse.

Sometimes customers require to email them invoice to more than 1 person, but I found everytime I email invoice to customer from Simply Accounting, I could email only 1 person. How can I email the invoice to a couple of persons at one time via Simply Accounting? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Re: Emailing invoices

Unfortunately no, Simply Accounting can only send the email to one address per invoice.  To send another copy, you will have to click the email button again and type in the second person's email address.

    Re: Emailing invoices

All I have is something called "Windows Live Mail" which attaches to my hotmail account. But it does not work with SA

Currently I can print as PDF, then Adobe Reader can sent it to Thunderbird.

I am very upset since the reason I shelled out the $$$ for SA was because it stated that I could email my invoices directly from SA with any MAPI client.  It did not mention that it had to me a Microsoft Extend MAPI thing.

I must say I am disappointed in SA since this is a break or break feature for me.

    Re: Emailing invoices

    Hi Susan,

Windows Live Mail is essentially the new name for Hotmail, which has always been a web-based service.  With web-based email you are not using an email application at all, so Simply Accounting has nothing to connect with.

I'd recommend using Outlook Express, which is MAPI compliant and included free with Windows.  You can still use Live Mail or Thunderbird for everything else.

    Re: Emailing invoices

We have been individually creating invices, posting them and either printing or emailing them with out any troubles.  However now we have just tripled our client base in the past 6 months and we are now using the daily business manager.  I have gathered email addresses from all my clients but I can only see how to post and print in business manager.  How can I still use the daily business manager mass post and still email to our clients?

    Re: Emailing invoices

Hi Brian.  Not sure if you can help me, but was looking for a solution to email and came across your explanation above.  I have done the above based on your description.  Created a IMAP account, and set it as my default in both the email & through windows, and I still get the same error in Simply, email program not MAPI compliant.  Do you know any other steps I should be doing?  I really need to get this setup.....

    Thanks

    R.T.

If your email program is not MAPI compliant, it will not work with Simply.
