    Backup

    Only lately I have been having a problem backing up Simply Accounting at the end of the day.  I have Vista on my computer and haven't had a problem until a few days ago.  When I click backup as per usual Simply then goes into an unresponsive state.  The little circle in Vista goes around and around but the green status bar on the screen does not show up and it says nothing until 10 minutes later when I click on the status screen it tells me "Simply Accounting - Backup (Not Responding)".  Does anyone have a suggestion as to what may have happened or how to fix this so I can back up my data.

    Try changing the location where the backup is being written/stored and see if that solves your dilemma.

    Re: Backup

    I have tried that numerous times and still no response.  I don't know if it is related or not but I went into the error log in the file location and it states the following (in italics).  I don't have any idea why this is happening all of a sudden.  I am going on vacation in just over a week and I don't want to leave my data without being backed up.

    Re: Backup

    Someone please help me!!  I am still having the same problems that will not go away and are just getting worse.  Almost every time I try to backup I am left in limbo most of the time with the Vista circle going around and around.  I did a restore from backup (an earlier one) which seemed to work until I went in and added some information and then tried to backup the file...big mistake I haven't been able to backup sucessfully ever since.

    I have noticed one very peculiar thing though, in the file location when it does perform a backup the file size has jumped considerably.  On August 20 the file size was 157,402 KB, on August 21 it was 1,262,174 KB, on 3 attempts of backups on August 24 the file sizes were 157,602 KB, then 325,993 KB and then 2,040,795 KB, and then on August 25 it was 935,174 KB.   On top of these crazy file sizes in the error log it shows the following information, I don't know if it has anything to do with my problems but I thought it wouldn't hurt to put it in here just in case.

    080826 16:10:54  InnoDB: Starting shutdown...
    080826 16:10:58  InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 0 94189906
    080826 16:10:58

    C:\Program Files\Winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary  \5.0.38\mysql\mysqld-nt.exe: Shutdown complete.  Error in my_thread_global_end(): 2 threads didn't exit.

    Re: Backup

    If the backup file is growing by doubling or more then it sounds like you are saving the backup file in your *.saj folder.  So check the location for the backup file and make sure you send it somewhere appropriate.  You never backup into the original file directory (although I have to admit I have done it for a secondary backup, but never a primary backup).  The backup file needs to be copied off the computer so make sure you backup to a location that you know can be burnt to a CD (eg. c:\SimplyBackup) or go direct to a memory stick etc.
