Opening 2007 data files in Simply 2008 w/payroll

Hi, I've been searching and searching for answers, but the ones that I've come across have not been successful. I am running WIndows Vista (on my laptop) and XP on my desktop. Trying to restore Simply 2007 files in Simply 2008 w/payroll, on both XP and Vista do not work. I've tried putting folders C:\Simply 2008 & C:\Simply Backup, and following the listed instructions, but to no avail. Also tried the search parameters "Unable to open company files", and again no help there. I have spent several hours, searching, reading and not getting any further. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I thank you in advance for any help you could provide (also I am new to Vista, but I still can't get it to work on XP).

     Thanks again

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

This is either an issue with the computer or the database itself.  At which point during the conversion does the "Unable to open company" message come up?  If it's at the very beginning then the chances are that it's an issue with the computer, if it's in the middle or at the end then it may be the database.

Have any other files converted on that computer?  If yes, then we know that the computer is capable of conversion and the problem resides in that specific database.

The main issue with the computer would be the system's security, either Windows itself or other software (McAfee, Norton etc.).  Vista is particularly prone to this as it has enhanced security built in.  Take a look at THIS knowledgebase article for troubleshooting steps.

If it still does not work then it's probably the database itself that has a problem.  In this case, give us a call at 1-888-522-2722 or contact us through chat, and we will get you to send the file to us for conversion.  The database contains minor damage and our data repair team will fix it and then convert the company.
